DATA, TECHNOLOGY AND PARTNERSHIPS
WILL AID OUR FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19
THE CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) IS ATTACKING SOCIETIES AT THEIR CORE AND IS EXPECTED TO NEGATIVELY INFLUENCE ALMOST ALL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Working with the vulnerable is more relevant than ever. The humanitarian community has a huge part to play, both responding to immediate needs and in helping with recovery in the medium to longer term. With the changed context of the COVID-19 pandemic, programmes need to pivot rapidly to respond to different and additional needs, while coping with restrictions on travel, lockdown requirements and health concerns.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION IS MORE RELEVANT THAN EVER.
There is an urgent need to monitor the implementation of programs to ensure rapid course-corrections, and targeted resource allocation to populations that are most in need. Organisations need to ensure that all the measures and stimulus packages that are provided during the outbreak are utilized effectively. COVID-19 should not set back the achievement of the SDGs. Since the crisis is evolving rapidly, careful monitoring of the direct and indirect effects of all interventions are crucial to ensure relief and support responses are, and stay, relevant.
“Evaluators in the unprecedented circumstances created by COVID-19, will have to navigate multiple trade-offs, put ethics front and center, be willing to get out of our methodological comfort zones, and be ready to try and fail”

THE RESEARCH, MONITORING AND EVALUATION SECTOR SHOULD NOT VAPORISE, BUT EVOLVE.
The changes in the research, monitoring and evaluation space are glaring, owing to reduced close-contact interaction and limited gatherings, tighter travel restrictions and hygiene requirements. It is more imperative than ever to engage stakeholders virtually, and adapt to remote data collection.
4TH WHEEL IS ONE OF THE ANALYTICAL VOICES, PROMOTING DATA, TECHNOLOGIES AND PARTNERSHIPS TO FIGHT SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS OF COVID-19.
Data and analytics are crucial tools for real-time decision-making and developing programs that provide rapid benefits. It enables the understanding of who needs assistance, in what capacity and to what degree. The COVID-19 pandemic has empathically established the significance and potential of technology, emphasizing the huge need for digital infrastructure development This powerful combination of data and technology is certain of creating successful and impactful collaborations in the direction of achieving the SDGs.
