Baseline and Impact Assessment study of skill training program

The partnership project between NSDC and NTPC Limited sought to impart skill development training to 5000 Indian youth at various NTPCL project locations. Through its approved training partners NSDC implemented the project in FY 2015-16 and 2016-17. The project aimed to instil economic security and stability among youth and women through skill training and holistic development, facilitating enhanced access to opportunities in industry jobs and through self employment. 4779 candidates across 11 states were trained in 21 different training domains over two years. The evaluation assessed improvements in employability, self efficacy and attitudes of the participating students. It captured the changes in youth aspiration after attending the program, impact of the programme towards achieving this goal, level of satisfaction and provided recommendations.

The study adopted a mixed method approach for the assessment of the program. It used quantitative non- experimental method and qualitative context analysis. The impact assessment was designed to gauge stakeholder reaction to and satisfaction with the skill trainings and analyse the learning environment of and learning opportunities provided by the skill training. The study adopted a stratified random sampling technique, based on geographical location, gender and skill training undertaken. It focused on validating quantitative data received through quantitative assessments and to get first-hand feedback and suggestions from key stakeholders on ways to improve and strengthen program delivery for enhanced impact.
